Paul Gascoigne wants Danny Dyer to play him in a movie on his life

Paul Gascoigne has revealed he would love Danny Dyer to play him in a movie about his life.

The football legend, 53, said in an interview with The Sun on Friday that there are talks about a ‘big movie’ being made about his life following his stint on Italy’s version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Outta Here.

Reflecting on who would be a good pick, he claimed the EastEnders actor, 43, would be the best man to take on the lead role, saying he thinks Danny would make a ‘great Gazza’.

Teasing the project, the former Tottenham Hostpur ace said: ‘There are plans for a big movie about my life.

‘I would like Danny Dyer to play me. The bloke out of EastEnders would be a great Gazza.’

According to reports, the biopic would depict Paul’s childhood, from being raised in a house council in Gateshead, to his addictions later in life with both alcohol and cocaine.

This comes after the sportsman was forced to quit the Italian realty show, L’Isola dei Famosi, around one month after making his debut.

He initially made a return to the show last month after he was rushed to the hospital when he injured himself during an endurance game.

But, according to local reports, the sportsman was forced to bow out of his appearance on the show after enduring persistent shoulder pain.

Previously, he had revealed that he would be willing to return to the programme despite his accident.

At the time, the star said he was ‘quite good’ and added that his shoulder was ‘so, so’ as the presenter Ilary Blasi asked for updates on his health condition.

However, he was seen appearing on the show with his arm in a sling, and in recent images taken at his hotel, he was seen still sporting the protective aid.

The sports legend was said to be facing ‘mental challenges’ as his injury forced him out of competing in physical games for the remaining duration of the competition.

According to The Sun, Paul said: ‘It hurts when I hear people say things like this, especially as when we arrived we were all friends and now people are against each other.

‘I had 30,000 angry people every weekend saying, ”You fat b*****d”. So you think two or three people moaning about me behind my back is going to hurt me? No, I’m just going to laugh.’

On how he was participating in the series, a source told the publication: ‘He can’t do anything physical for at least two weeks, but the aim is for him to be mentally challenged.

‘We are looking at some Italian language tests or maybe arithmetic or geography questions.’

MailOnline contacted a representative for Paul Gascoigne for comment at the time.

The media personality is reportedly to have been paid around 7,000 euros (£5,981) for each week he took part in the show.

And last month, the star caught the eye for other reasons, when he made history by becoming the first contestant to sunbathe naked on the Italian show.
