Kesha clarifies how to ACTUALLY say her name and mother Pebe Sebert reveals how she chose it

Kesha clarified on her TikTok account how her name is actually pronounced.

‘My name is Kesha – Keh-shuh. Not Keisha, not Ketchup, Kesha,’ said the 34-year-old singer who rose to fame in 2009 with a single called Tik Tok.

Her singer-songwriter mother Pebe Sebert was on her own TikTok page revealing to her fans how her daughter’s name came about.

Pebe, whose real name is Rosemary Patricia Sebert, has written for such artists as Dolly Parton as well as co-writing with her own daughter.

She had her first son Lagan with her ex-husband Hugh Moffat and later conceived Kesha, her only daughter by another man.

Pebe, who is of Hungarian and German descent, also adopted a son called Louie who is the youngest of her three children.

‘So the name Kesha’s actually a Hungarian family name that Lagan would have been named if he had been a girl,’ Pebe said on TikTok this Monday.

‘But since he wasn’t, the name is actually pronounced Ketchah in Hungarian, and so I decided to make it easier and to make it Kesha, and that’s where Kesha came from.’

Pebe, who helped write such Kesha songs as Your Love Is My Drug and Cannibal, also revealed how she ventured into songwriting.

‘I learned to write songs because I was a weirdo awkward kid that didn’t fit in and I had to find a way to express myself,’ she shared.

‘And writing songs was the coolest thing I could do, at least I thought so, and it’s just the way I express myself now,’ said Pebe.

Kesha recently had a setback in her long legal battle with music producer Dr. Luke who has denied her accusation that he raped her when she was 18.

A judge upheld Dr. Luke’s victory in a defamation case against Kesha over a text conversation she had with Lady Gaga that went public.

In the conversation Katy told Gaga that Dr. Luke raped Katy Perry – a claim that both Katy and Dr. Luke have denied under oath.

A judge ruled last February that Kesha did indeed defame Dr. Luke, prompting her to appeal on the grounds that he was a ‘public figure.’

However the February 2020 ruling was upheld by an appellate court last week, with the panel deciding he is not in fact a public figure for the purposes of this case.
