The television personality has always insisted her slurred speech was the result of the strong medication she was on for her bi-polar disorder.

The former I’m A Celeb winner said ‘no one knew’ about her bi-polar disorder at the time and following the interview, felt so low she contemplated taking her own life.

She said on Victoria Derbyshire’s BBC show: ‘I wanted take my own life, especially after This Morning incident eleven years ago with Philip and Ferne when they thought I was drunk.

‘It was down to my bipolar medication and no one knew I had bipolar at that point.’

She returned to This Morning two years later and said she was in ‘the wrong marriage’ with husband Mark Croft, 39.

‘When you’re in a marriage like that or relationship or surrounded by people… until you find strength to get out of what you’re in, there’s not a lot you can do,’ she said.

Kerry continued: ‘I shouldn’t have done the interview – but I’m glad I have done because it’s changed me. That interview, the News of the World video… it’s all changed me. It gave me a massive wake up call to go ‘come on Kerry, you’re a mum’.

Kerry was referring to the infamous 2009 News of the World video that she admits did indeed show her snorting cocaine.

Change: Kerry said coming off the drugs was like 'coming out of a coma. It was like, "right, what's going on, where's my money gone?" So when I came off the medication, we starting arguing, I wanted to find out where it'd all gone.'

She said: ‘Yes. Yes, I was. I hold my hands up. And if I hadn’t of done any of those things, the situation I was in, the people I was surrounded by, I had nobody to help me – these were my friends and family – and I had no one to help me.

‘I was made bankrupt. I’d been dropped by Iceland. It was spiralling out of control and I started taking more and more drugs.’

Kerry said the turning point came when she attended a two-week boot camp in January.

A month later, Katona and Mark split up. A police investigation into how the couple spent £10m in their five years together was launched.

Declaring bankruptcy can significantly damage an individual’s credit score and subsequently impact their ability to obtain a mortgage.

She filed for bankruptcy once more in 2013 at her local office in Wigan. It is reported her legal woes didn’t stop there and that she filed for bankruptcy again in 2018.

To qualify for a mortgage, individuals who have declared bankruptcy, need to build their credit score to prove to lenders they can be trusted to repay debts accrued on property.

Secured credit cards and installment loans are a way of building one’s credit score for a mortgage after bankruptcy, but the process can take several years.

Just one day earlier, Kerry was seen popping into an estate agents in Cheshire with her fiancé as they prepared to make the move up north.

It had been reported last month that Kerry was planning to return to her roots by relocating north to be closer to her mother Sue in case her ‘health declines.’

A source told The Sun: ‘She’s looking at houses up north as her mum has health problems and she wants to move up there to be closer to her.

‘Kerry is an only child and wants to be able to look after her mum if, God forbid, her health declines.’

Kerry has spent recent months viewing potential new homes after spending a ‘long time’ thinking about the decision to return to her roots.

However, the former Atomic Kitten star only recently moved into a two-storey and four bedroom rented home in east Sussex with her family, including husband-to-be Ryan.

In March 2020, Kerry downsized from a three-story six bedroom house which was costing her £3000-per-month in rent, to move into the south England property which boasted a gym for Ryan, who is a personal trainer.

In 2004 the hitmaker put the six-bedroom Dublin home she’d shared with then-husband Brian McFadden on the market for £2.5 million

Back in 2005, she lived in a three-storey property in Warrington in the style of a modern townhouse, while in 2007, she was living in a £1 million home with then-husband Mark Croft in Wilmslow.

In 2011 she was living in mock-Tudor mansion boasting a gym, indoor pool, spa and home cinema in Surrey.

In 2013, when she was married to the late George Kay she shared a Surrey mansion with him, which she rented for £5,000 a month, with the sprawling property set in sweeping lush gardens.

In September 2013, just months after declaring bankruptcy, she moved into a £5,500-a-month mansion which was valued at £3million at the time, and boasted five bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, gym, spa and cinema room.

She then moved into a smaller £3,000-a-month house believed to be in Oxfordshire, complete with five bedrooms and country views in 2014.

She also rented another stunning mansion in Cheshire in 2017 where she lived with her family, which boasted vast gardens and a rustic indoor feel.

Kerry got engaged to Ryan in August, but was married to Brian McFadden from 2002 to 2006, Mark Croft from 2007 to 2011 and the late George Kay from 2014 to 2017.

She is a mother to Molly, 19, Lilly-Sue, 18, with ex-husband Brian, Heidi, 13, Maxwell, 12, with ex Mark, 49, and Dylan-Jorge, six, whose father George tragically passed away in 2019.

Talking about being being together with her five children during lockdown, she sweetly said to MailOnline: ‘I have visions of me being 101 in a rocking chair, because I’m an only child you see.

‘And being in foster home and refuges and not having a biological dad, my dream was always to have a big family.

‘Being the grandmother in the rocking chair with my kids and grandkids and great grandkids, Christmases they all come to mine, that is something I’ve always wanted.’
