Kacey Musgraves rocks equestrian-themed black-and-silver Ralph Lauren look at the 2021 Met Gala

Kacey Musgraves looked ready for some horseback riding when she walked the red carpet Monday evening at the 2021 Met Gala.

The 33-year-old country music star dressed down with a skin-baring two-piece Ralph Lauren ensemble featuring a shining silver skirt.

She revealed to Vogue that her look was inspired by ‘equestrian’ outfits, which fit perfectly with the evening’s theme, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.

Riding pro: Kacey Musgraves, 33, celebrated her inner horse girl with an equestrian-themed Ralph Lauren look at the 2021 Met Gala in Manhattan on Monday

Kacey looked sleek in a black long-sleeve mock turtleneck sweater that was cropped to highlight her toned tummy.

But the bottom half of her outfit drew the mot attention, as she wore a lustrous silver skirt that glowed in the bright light.

The skirt had an ultra-high slit to reveal her legs, but the Star-Crossed singer covered them in knee-high black leather boots.

Kacey, who often shows off ’60s-inspired outfits, seemed to have taken a break from her retro looks for an equestrian-themed ensemble.

‘I went for a little bit of an equestrian kind of influence,’ she told Vogue on the red carpet. ‘I mean, I’m a horse girl through and through, from Texas.

‘And also, I just like comfortable s**t,’ she joked.

Kacey also chose a Ralph Lauren design to fit in the with gala’s American fashion theme.

‘I’m so excited to be wearing Ralph, because when you think of American fashion, he’s one of the first ones that comes to mind,’ she said. ‘He’s the one.’

Kacey previously caused a stir at the 2019 camp-themed Met Gala when she arrived dressed as a pink-clad Barbie doll, complete with a pink Corvette to chauffeur her.

The singer recently earned rave reviews for her new album Star-Crossed, which was inspired by her divorce from singer–songwriter Ruston Kelly.

The new album marks her continued expansion beyond country music into pop terrain.

Fittingly, she caught up with newly minted pop star Olivia Rodrigo, who helped open Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Olivia complemented Kacey with a figure-hugging black lace bodysuit from Saint Laurent.

The Good 4 U singer sported ostrich feathers reached across the frock’s off-the-shoulder neckline, and she stood tall in black open-toe platform heels.

She wore her hair up while Kacey let her long brunette tresses hang down her chest in waves.

Monday marked the first Met Gala in two years, as the 2020 edition was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and this year’s event was pushed back from its usual May date.

Kacey and all the other attendees had received their Covid-19 vaccines, a must-have accessory this year.

‘Currently, all attendees at The Met Gala on September 13 must provide proof of full vaccination and will also be expected to wear masks indoors except when eating or drinking,’ a spokesperson for The Met said last month.

This year’s gala will be a more intimate affair than past editions due to coronavirus safety procedures, though it will be followed by a larger event on May 2, 2022. Both will launch a two-part exhibition, a survey of American fashion to be on view for almost a year.

In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, opening Sept. 18, will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the museum´s Costume Institute and ‘explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion,’ the spokesperson added.

Part two, In America: An Anthology of Fashion, will open in the museum’s popular American Wing period rooms on May 5, 2022, and will explore American fashion, with collaborations with film directors, by ‘presenting narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of those spaces.’ Both parts will close on Sept. 5, 2022.
