Jonah Hill to star in Kenya Barris’ feature directorial debut for Netflix… with the actor co-writing and producing the forthcoming comedy

Jonah Hill has another film in the works.

The 37-year-old actor is set to star in Kenya Barris’ feature directorial debut, a currently unnamed comedy for Netflix, according to Variety.

Hill and Barris also joined forces to pen the film’s script, which is said to be a ‘modern look at the themes tackled in’ the 1967 film Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

Kenya, an acclaimed screenwriter, is the brain behind ABC’s hit sitcom Black-ish, which is in its eighth and final season on the network.

Continuing their collaborative effort, Hill and Barris will also be producing the forthcoming comedy flick.

Kenya will produce via his creative collective Khalabo Ink Society, while Jonah will go through his production company Strong Baby. Kevin Misher of Misher Films will also be producing the project.

Executive producers include Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin of Hill’s Strong Baby, E. Brian Dobbins, and Andy Berman.

Shooting is expected to commence in the fall in Los Angeles.

Although the film’s name and plot have remained mostly under-wraps, Variety claims it will draw inspiration from 1967’s Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

The premise for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?, which starred the likes of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, revolves around a white woman surprising her parents with a Black fiance.

Jonah recently wrapped another straight to Netflix film, titled Don’t Look Up, which sees him act alongside his Wolf Of Wall Street costar Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

Don’t Look Up, directed by Adam McKay, is expected to premiere on the streaming platform later this year.

Just last month, Jonah confirmed on his Instagram that he’ll produce and star as Chicago fixer Sidney Korshak in a limited series based on Dennis McDougal’s 1998 book The Last Mogul.

The Beverly Hills-born attorney – who died, age 88, in 1996 – partnered with Chicago mobsters, which led the FBI to dub him ‘the most powerful lawyer in the world.’

The show will center on Sidney’s real-life friendship and partnership with pioneering Hollywood agent Lew Wasserman, who once chaired the MCA.

The Korshak-Wasserman project will be created by William Monahan, who won the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay in 2007 for penning Martin Scorsese’s The Departed.

Jonah – who boasts 11.5M social media followers – confirmed the news by sharing Deadline‘s article with the emoji caption: ‘Strong Baby productions.’
