Davina McCall displays her washboard abs in a grey crop top as she fronts new cholesterol campaign

Davina McCall looked incredible as she flashed her washboard abs in a new health campaign highlighting the dangers of high cholesterol.

The TV presenter, 53, slipped into a grey crop top and black leggings as she fronted the campaign by Raisio Nutrition Ltd which aims to emphasise the importance of getting your cholesterol checked.

The project, in association with Benecol, is close to home for Davina as she has suffered with high cholesterol herself, with the Masked Singer judge seen posing alongside four real people who also have high cholesterol.

Davina features in a number of images in the photoshoot, shot at Bleeding Heart Studios in London’s Farringdon, with the star showing off her toned physique in gym gear.

As part of the campaign, special effects make-up has been applied to their skin showing fatty, wax-like cholesterol build-up in the arteries, which reveals what high cholesterol would look like if it was visible to the naked eye.

‘Cholesterol is a fatty substance found in your blood. Too much of it can cause serious health problems’, states the NHS.

They added that ‘high cholesterol does not cause symptoms. You can only find out if you have it from a blood test.’

Discussing why it’s important to keep an eye on your cholesterol, Davina told Female First: ‘High cholesterol strikes fear into everybody’s heart- it’s a hidden danger, you can’t really see it, you don’t know it’s there, you don’t know you’ve got it but it is something that you can manage.’

She went on: ‘There are ways you can manage it, but so few people get it checked. I would never have known that I had high cholesterol but I wanted to get pregnant, and I was a very anxious first time mother. I wanted to do everything right so I went to get my bloods checked.’

The presenter went on to say that she’s managed to keep her cholesterol in control thanks to her healthy diet and simple food swaps with the help of Benecol products, which specifically help to lower cholesterol.

Davina added that after first being aware of her high cholesterol 20 years ago when she first got pregnant, she still regularly has checks to ‘keep an eye’ on it.

She added: ‘I haven’t checked it for a year because of covid but I try and check it every six months to keep an eye on it. I didn’t when it first happened- I did it once a year but I want to keep on top of it and make sure that it’s not skyrocketing.

Davina has long been open about issues surrounding her health and just recently she opened up further about her menopause journey where she likened going through the menopause with how she felt when she kicked her addiction to heroin.

The former Big Brother host recalled that suffering with symptoms including severe night sweats, sleepless nights and poor vision gave her flashbacks to her days of drug dependency when she was in her 20s.

Davina, who was perimenopause at 44, also told that during the most intense days of her suffering, she felt that she was ‘going mad’ and believed that she had early onset dementia.

The Masked Singer judge is set to discuss the menopause and taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in her new documentary Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and the Menopause.

And ahead of her show, Davina opened up in an online Q&A about going through the menopause and not realising what was happening to her or her body.

She explained: ‘I thought I was going mad. I even thought I was possibly getting some sort of early-onset dementia. The menopause didn’t even cross my mind because I was young – 44 – so I battled on for a year. I didn’t know who to talk to, where to go.

‘I was getting night sweats, and what was horrible is that I’m a recovering addict and it took me back to being sick and trying to recover from addiction. Then I couldn’t read the autocue. It began affecting my vision — because of lack of sleep I couldn’t see or read.’

The star told how an ITV producer approached her out of concern after as she didn’t seem herself at work, with Davina telling how she struggled to concentrate, adding that she was just ‘in a fog’.

She went on to explain that as a teetotal recovering addict, she doesn’t even like to take over-the-counter tablets for headaches, so she avoided going down the medical route.

Davina told how she took up exercise and took herbal remedies to help but these didn’t ‘cut it’, telling how she planned to ‘battle through’ before finally getting educated about the menopause, with a private gynaecologist eventually prescribing HRT for her.
