David Walliams jokes Simon Cowell is so short he mistook him for a Jawa

David Walliams has joked Simon Cowell is so short he once mistook him for a Jawa when he took off his heeled boots.

The comedian, 49, made an appearance on Thursday’s edition of Lorraine, and admitted he was left shocked at the height difference between him and the music mogul, 61, especially when he removed his shoes.

Detailing the story, he said: ‘I shouldn’t tell this story but one time we were flying back from Glasgow or something and he chartered a private jet to fly us back from the auditions.

Amusing: David Walliams joked on Thursday’s edition of Lorraine that Simon Cowell is so short when the music mogul took off his heeled boots one day he mistook him for a JAWA

‘He wears a boot with a heel, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a very small figure, you know like those Jawas in Star Wars?

‘I asked “Who is that? and they said “oh Simon just took of his shoes!”‘

Jawas are metre-tall creatures who live on planet Tatooine, where Luke Skywalker is from, and they famously sell his uncle C-3PO and R2D2 in A New Hope.

David’s comment left Lorraine in hysterics, and he quipped: ‘The good thing is he doesn’t get up until 3 in the afternoon so he won’t be watching this! He doesn’t know who you are.’

Joker: David explained he was waiting to take a chartered plane with Simon, when 'out of the corner of my eye I saw a very small figure' who he thought looked like a Jawa

The Britain’s Got Talent judge couldn’t help but make another joke about Simon, as he said of turning 50 later in the year that his co-star is the one to have work done.

When Lorraine referenced his youthful looks, David joked: ‘I haven’t had any work done, Simon Cowell says that to me every year “what have you had done?” I say “no Simon it’s you not me!”‘

David also said he is set to make an appearance on The Masked Dancer as a guest judge, and hinted the show will air during the May half term.

Surprised: David said of Simon's stature: 'You know like those Jawas in Star Wars? I asked "Who is that? and they said "oh Simon just took of his shoes!"'

Lorraine mentioned how judges were convinced he was the Blob, who turned out to be Lenny Henry, and he said: ‘I can’t actually sing so I am unlikely to be in The Masked Singer.

‘I did The Masked Dancer as a guest judge, I’m not giving much away because I can’t sing or dance. I think it’s on during half term when Britain’s Got Talent was meant ti be on.’

Britain’s Got Talent 2021 was cancelled earlier this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The talent show had already been postponed due to safety concerns and the restrictions brought about by tier systems and lockdowns.

But after several weeks of speculation, it was confirmed that the show will now not return to screens until 2022.

Bosses of the show said that despite the efforts of the teams at ITV, Thames and head judge Simon Cowell’s Syco, they were forced to call plans off.

They said: ‘With our absolute priority of safeguarding the well-being and health of every person involved in the programme from judges, hosts and contestants to all of the crew and audience, the decision has been made to – unfortunately – move the record and broadcast of the 15th series of Britain’s Got Talent to 2022.

‘BGT is known for its diversity of talent with big dance groups, wonderful choirs and lavish orchestras at its heart, and it has become clear that not only is it not possible to film auditions with these types of acts in a secure way but also that they are not able to adequately rehearse and prepare safely.

‘Safety has to come first and, as a result, the recording of the show can’t currently go ahead as planned.’
