Camila Cabello is glimpsed for the first time as Cinderella as she breathes new life into the Disney classic with a musical twist: ‘WOWZA’

Camila Cabello may be best known for her vocal abilities but she will be taking her talents to the big screen, after being tapped to play Cinderella in a musically-driven adaptation.

And on Thursday the 24-year-old Senorita crooner was glimpsed for the first time as the beloved Disney heroine via the film’s official social media page, Camila reposting the stills with a simple ‘WOWZA.’

The Cuban-born popstar will play opposite lesser known British actor Nicholas Galitzine (High Strung) in the classic reboot, and it is currently slated for release on Amazon Prime Video in September 2021.

The age-old story has been adapted a handful of times on screen, with perhaps the most progressive and popular reboot starring singer Brandy, Whitney Houston and Whoopi Goldberg in 1997.

And most recently Lily James, Cate Blanchett, and Helena Bonham Carter graced the big screen in yet another live action version of the 1950s animated classic in 2015.

The latest version had been slated to hit theaters in July before Sony chose to license the movie worldwide to Amazon’s Prime Video for a September 2021 release instead.

Camila began taking acting classes in preparation for what she called her ‘dream’ role, telling Variety that though excited by the opportunity it was a little ‘terrifying.’

‘It was one of those things that felt like God handcrafted it for me and was, like, ‘Here you go.” I just couldn’t say no. It’s honestly a dream for me. And also a little bit terrifying,’ she shared.

And she was quick to admit her shortcomings in the conversation, saying that she had to ultimately learn to ‘trust the moment,’ and to stop ‘overanalyzing’ things.

‘My big problem is being in my head a lot, overanalyzing and overthinking, to the point where it sucks the joy out of things that are joyous.’

The UK shot film — which director Kay Cannon called a ‘musical comedy’ — first kicked off shooting in February 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic halted production.

The cast and crew were able to safely resume filming in August 2020 and production finally wrapped in October. As of last week the film had finished all its sound mixing.

In speaking about the level of representation that continues to become a major consideration in Hollywood, Camila said she is thrilled about being a part of a cultural shift.

‘I’m really happy that we’re at a point now in culture where little girls can see themselves being represented.’
