Boy George, 59, ditches signature androgynous look to go makeup-free for dinner with FKA twigs

In the decades since he first rose to fame as a prominent part of the New Romantic movement, he has been well known for his signature androgynous look.

But Boy George appeared to go light on the makeup, when he met up with fellow musician FKA twigs for a boozy al fresco meal in London on Thursday night.

The Culture Club frontman, 59, looked fresh-faced as he sat at Japanese restaurant ROKA’s outdoor table while laughing and chatting with 33-year-old twigs.

Wrapping up in a black hoodie, which he teamed with a patterned beanie, the Karma Chameleon hitmaker sported carefully primped facial hair for his outing.

Meanwhile, twigs also stepped out in style for the culinary excursion, donning a black patterned dress, which she shrouded in a fluffy brown full-length coat.

Complementing her look with a pair of chunky black boots, the singer toted a black handbag, while she wore her golden tresses in voluminous curls.

The pair’s outing comes after Boy George, real name George O’Dowd, admitted that he’s ’embarrassed’ by his feud with pop icon Madonna.

During Saturday night’s The Jonathan Ross Show, the singer was reminded he once referred to the Like A Virgin hitmaker as ‘vile’, prompting George to respond: ‘I’m actually a bit embarrassed I said that.’

The star also told host Jonathan Ross: ‘I treat Boy George from the ’80s as a sort of cartoon character,’ and reveal: ‘I’m going to drop 60 songs for my 60th birthday.’

During the show, comments previously made by George about other celebrities were read aloud, including a remark about Madonna, 62.

George reportedly once referred to Madonna as a ‘vile, hideous human being with no redeeming qualities’.

Reflecting on his words, George said: ‘It’s not something I would say now… it’s really just, I’m actually a bit embarrassed I said that.’

He added: ‘Madonna… she fascinates me. I love Madonna. Come on, how can you not? Of course I do. She’s my contemporary. I’ve actually just sold some paintings of Madonna that I did.’

The musician then concluded: ‘I’ve not had the good sense to do that [work with her]. Could happen though. I wasn’t joking. Imagine me and Madonna on a record, it would be amazing come on.’

Both stars ruled the charts throughout the 1980s, and George has previously said Madonna ‘hates’ him.

Looking back on the decade, the Everything I Own singer said: ‘That person is someone I created. I treat Boy George from the ’80s as a sort of cartoon character.’

He continued: ‘I’m not that person. I do a lot of paintings of Boy George as I think of him as an invention… He’s a different person.’

As for turning 60 in June, George revealed he intends to ‘drop 60 songs for my 60th birthday’ adding that he’s been ‘working furiously [on them] for a year’.

Despite the milestone, the star insisted he remains youthful at heart, as he said: ‘I still feel like a teenager, really. And act like one a lot…

‘Some people grow into themselves and some people grow out of themselves. For me as I’ve got older, I’ve started to like myself more and I’ve sort of become a gentler person and more compassionate.

‘When you’re more compassionate towards yourself, then you’re more compassionate to everyone else, which is a nice thing.’

Meanwhile, FKA twigs, real name Tahliah Barnett, recently stated it was a ‘big relief’ to speak publicly about the alleged abuse she endured from her ex Shia LaBeouf.

FKA accused Shia, 34, of physically assaulting her, sexual battery and infliction of emotional distress in a legal action she filed in Los Angeles Superior Court last December, and he has denied abuse claims.

In February, FKA detailed her relief at speaking out against her ex Shia, saying she felt she ‘was holding on to somebody else’s dysfunction.’

In an interview with The Face magazine, FKA spoke to actress and I May Destroy You creator Michaela Coel about her relationship with the former child star.

The former couple met on the set of the movie Honey Boy in 2018 and dated for nine months, splitting in May 2019 over ‘conflicting work schedules’.

Looking back, FKA said: ‘I felt like I was holding on to somebody else’s dysfunction. And now I feel like I’ve given it back to him. It’s his to hold and rightly so. He can hold it because it’s not mine.’

Going on to discuss how she feels about going public with her abuse allegations, she added that it was ‘important’.

She said: ‘You know, it’s important in this day and age that everybody’s able to be accountable for their actions. And I don’t mean in an ‘outrage culture’ kind of way, because I’m not really here for that either.’

FKA told Michaela that speaking about their relationship has been ‘a big relief’ and that it was a ‘real step’ for any women experiencing that.

Shia’s attorney has said in a court filing that the Honey Boy actor ‘denies generally and specifically each and every allegation’ in FKA’s complaint.

The actor has apologised to ‘those he had hurt’ but has ‘denied each and every’ assault allegation by the singer and wants her to pay his legal costs.

According to legal documents obtained by People, Shia denies that [Barnett] has sustained any injury or loss by reason of any act or omission on the part of [LaBeouf], and denies that [Barnett] is entitled to any relief or damages whatsoever’.

His lawyers added that ‘none of the acts alleged were based on sex and/or the conduct was not sexual’ as they try to get the sexual battery allegations dismissed.

The actor also told The New York Times ‘many’ of the allegations were not true, and that he has ‘no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations.

He apologised but only in part, saying: ‘I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.’

The filmmaker also said that he owed the women ‘the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those things I have done,’ according to NYT.

Shia added that he was currently in therapy and in a 12-step program, although he is ‘not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism.’

Reflecting on their ‘nightmare’ relationship, FKA claimed her former partner would force her to ‘sleep naked’ and called her ‘disgusting and vile’ in her chat with King.

The singer – who dated the troubled actor from September 2018 until June 2019 – said: ‘He would often start an argument with me in the middle of the night. He would start accusing me of doing all sorts of things, planning to leave him in my head.

‘That I was disgusting and vile. Nothing was ever true but I would really doubt myself, especially when I would wake up, and he would be like ‘You were lying there with your eyes open, planning to leave me.’ And I would be like ‘I was literally asleep.”

‘He would only want me to sleep naked because he said if I didn’t, I was keeping myself from him.’

MailOnline contacted Shia’s representatives for further comment at the time.
