Anderson Cooper’s Jeopardy ratings are the worst of any guest host falling below Dr. Oz

Anderson Cooper had a tough act to follow, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, in his two-week Jeopardy guest-host stint, and it showed in the ratings.

The 53-year-old CNN anchor began his guest-hosting stint on April 19, with ratings for that first week falling to a 5.1, the lowest ratings of any Jeopardy guest host, according to The Wrap.

The ratings were also said to be impacted by extensive daytime coverage of Derek Chauvin‘s murder trial on April 19 and 20, the latter of which was when the guilty verdict was announced.

The 5.1 rating also dropped Jeopardy out of the top spot for game shows, with Family Feud taking over with a 5.5 rating.

Cooper’s 5.1 rating comes in just below the 5.2 rating posted by Dr. Oz in his debut week, which was previously the lowest-rating guest host stint

Cooper’s predecessor Rodgers put up a strong 5.6 rating in his first week and a 5.5 rating in his second week.

The highest ratings of all the guest hosts put into place after longtime host Alex Trebek passed away came from the first guest host, former Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings.

Jennings pulled in a 6.2 rating in his first week, dipping just slightly in his second week with a 5.9 rating.

Trebek’s final week of hosting earned a 6.6 rating, with the final episode drawing in 14 million viewers, the most viewers in over a year.

Jennings was followed by Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards and Katie Couric, whose second week marked the first time the show fell into second place.

60 Minutes’ Bill Whitaker started his first week of guest hosting duties on Monday, and he will be followed by former contestant Buzzy Cohen, Mayim Bialik and Savannah Guthrie.

The final guest hosts are Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Joe Buck, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, David Faber and LeVar Burton, who will close out the current season.

Richards has said that they have not yet made a decision as to who will take over as the permanent host next season quite yet.

Even before he was named as the final guest host, there was a strong grass roots movement to get Burton to host.

Fans even started a Change.org petition to get the show’s producers to name Burton as the permanent host, which has over 250,000 signatures.
