Actor Zoe Terakes reveals what it’s really like to work with Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy after starring in Nine Perfect Strangers


Nine Perfect Strangers star Zoe Terakes has revealed what it is really like to work with Hollywood A-lister, Nicole Kidman

The 21-year-old, who identifies as trans masculine non-binary, spoke about working with the Oscar winner on MamaMia’s No Filter podcast. 

Speaking of the power imbalance on-set with Hollywood heavyweights, including Nicole and Melissa McCarthy, Zoe acknowledged that ‘people are spoken to differently’.

‘People are not going to talk to Nicole Kidman the way they talk to me. Nor would I expect them to,’ they added. 

Zoe went on to explain the biggest Hollywood stars on Nine Perfect Strangers were very nice with zero ego. 

‘Nicole and Melissa… none of them are big ego-y actors. They make you feel part of the team. You forget after a while [who they are].’ 

Zoe also said the actors involved in the production were all ‘team players’ with no-one showing an ego during production.

Amazon’s Nine Perfect Strangers has an all-star cast including Nicole, Melissa, Regina Hall, Bobby Cannavale, and Luke Evans. 

Zoe portrays Glory on the series, however, they are best known for their work on the cult Foxtel series, Wentworth.  

Oscar-winner Kidman recently revealed that filming for the limited series was almost cancelled due to the pandemic.

The actress, 53, told The Sunday Telegraph that Nine Perfect Strangers’ production was called off in the U.S. last year as the country battled Covid.

Nicole then made the decision to relocate filming for the limited series to Australia.  

‘It was a hustle. We were fully supported by all of the actors and the government and we were able to still get the show made instead of having to shut it down, which was the other possibility,’ she explained.

‘For me it was the ability to get the show made… We hadn’t really finalised the location so we were still kind of trying to find the right spot and we couldn’t find it. And then suddenly the possibility of shooting in Byron Bay became available,’ she said.

Cast and crew members were also required to get tested for the virus regularly.

Based on the 2018 novel by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty, the eight-episode series tells the story of nine stressed-out urbanites who escape to a wellness retreat run by Nicole’s character, Masha.

The show was produced by Nicole’s production company Blossom Films, alongside collaborators Bruna Papandrea and David E. Kelley.
